Your domain is one of the most important aspects of your website and your branding. There’s a world of difference between a business card with smoovewebsites.weebly.com and smoovewebsites.com!

Plus, it’ll really spruce up your email address! You can turn smoovewebsites@gmail.com into admin@smoovewebsites.com and really add to your professional cred (well, not those emails, because we already did).

Check for your domain name

If the domain name that YOU want is already taken, then think about ways to vary it up!

smoovewebsites.com is already ours, but if you wanted smoove-websites.com or smoovewebsitedesign.com then you’d have a good chance at those (at least until we get bigger and scoop up all available domains!).

So if the domain name you’re after is taken, you can always get creative and think up another. Adding “-” hyphens is a good idea, or even just adding more words from your business. If it’s taken, get creative!

Registering a domain name

It’s easy. You can do it yourself or have us do it for you.

In fact, it’s so much easier to have Smoove Websites register your domain name and hosting than for us to have to transfer it for you, that our cheaper package only has “Register Domain” as an option!

And it’s ALL YOURS. Seriously. When we register the domain name, we do it with YOUR credentials and then give you the logins so that you can take full-control of your own website!

Oh, and for a “.au” or “.com.au” you’ll need an ABN!

Transferring a domain name

Transferring a domain name is not easy, but it’s not impossible. The simple truth is that domain name registrars don’t want to give up “ownership” of your domain name, so they don’t make it easy to get your “Authorisation Code (Auth Code)”.

From ionos.com: “An authorisation code is an 8 to 20 character code assigned by the provider or host of your domain (registrar) when the domain was registered and can be obtained from your current registrar”

If you can get your hands on the Authorisation Code, then it makes transferring a whole lot easier.

Changing your Name Servers

If you have no interest in transferring your domain name over, then you can always just point your Name Servers to the IP we will provide you.

And of course, it’s important that you know what you’re doing. If you’re not confident in changing the nameservers yourself, you can always pay us to do it for you! We’d need the login credentials and we’d log into your account and make the changes on your behalf.
